The Thurs., July 7 Biophilia: Pittsburgh meeting will feature Randy Wiesenmayer, Ph.D., who will lead a discussion on "The Native American Connection to Nature." Most of us are products of the Western worldview. We have been exposed to the values, beliefs, and understandings as presented through this Western worldview. The traditional Native American worldview is quite different from ours in many important ways. Dr. Wiesenmayer will begin his presentation with a traditional Native American "smudging" and an opening ceremony. He will then facilitate a discussion of traditional Native American ways versus the ways of the Western worldview.

Dr. Wiesenmayer is a recently retired professor. He taught the graduate level course “Science: Native American Views” as well as courses on climate change and Earth ecosystems. For over ten years Dr. Wiesenmayer served as an adjunct professor of Native American Studies. During that time, he visited over a dozen Native American reservations/communities, was invited to Native American “elders gatherings” and was mentored in the traditional pipe ceremony.
